My dad in 2004, 5 days before he died. He was on hospice care. He was diagnosed on Father’s Day, 2004, with lung cancer. he was a lifetime smoker, but quit in 1992. DR said if he had quit long before (or never started)…he would be here today…My dad was a talented writer and news broadcaster. He was very silly, sometimes eccentric, as you will see…We miss you, Dad…

ANYONE that considers smoking…needs to know that the chance of being diagnosed and then dying of lung cancer is a strong possibility. Please, I don’t want anyone to go through the fear,frustration, and pain that my dad went through.,.not to mention the family having to WATCH him go through it. We stood by helplessly as he tried to “catch” his breath, couldn’t swallow because the radiation made his throat sore, coughed up blood, and later heard the imfamous “death rattle” as he tried to breathe. The waiting was the worst…Please , see video #2 for additional comments. SEMPER FI!

COPD Cardio Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Is Serious and Will Kill You!

Marc from MirrorAthlete.com presents “COPD is serious and will kill you’” at a NW Oregon river on a dock. Marc’s motto is “walking is the best cardio-vascular fitness exercise,” He attemps to read his articles at various walking locations usually on the West coast. His reading location today “Cardo Obstructive Pulmonary Disease” is on willamette Oregon river dock at Champoeg State park. The weather was extreme during this shoot, approximately 104 degrees and climbing during the take. The swaying dock with boats going by with children playing and great NW natural scenary in the backdrop makes for an interesting reading location.

Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of premature death, disease and disability.
Tobacco use increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancers, respiratory diseases, adverse effects in pregnancy, gastrointestinal problems and tooth and gum problems.
More than 40,000 Canadians, aged 35 or more, are estimated to die annually as a direct result of smoking (30,000 men, 16,000 women).
Tobacco kills over 13,000 Ontario residents each year (one-fifth of all deaths in the province), or over 35 per day, compared to 3,000 annual deaths from traffic accidents, suicides, homicide and AIDS combined.
Every year in Ontario, tobacco-related deaths costs taxpayers between $3 and $4 billion in direct health-care costs and $7 billion in indirect costs.
Smoking is responsible for about one-third of potential years of life lost due to cancer, about one-quarter of potential years of life lost due to diseases of the heart and about one-half of potential years of life lost due to respiratory disease.
26 per cent of all Ontario households report that at least one person smokes inside the home every day or almost every day.
