Before school begins each year, the kitchen staff work to design great tasting and healthy menus for your children to eat during lunch time. So, how can a school lunch program help you in case you have a picky eater or want your child to be exposed to a variety of foods?
The main reason for a school lunch program would be to provide healthy choices for the children going to school there to eat. You will get some basic kid favorites such as chicken nuggets, pizza and macaroni and cheese. Side dishes, like breads, cottage cheese, and fruits and vegetables, will also be offered. In other instances you’ll find dishes like Chicken ala King, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Tacos, and an assortment of different kinds of soup. The school makes sure to design menus that will not only incorporate the general favorites, but will also provide unique foods many children have never tried before.
Due to this wide variety of different types of food that are offered to the children every day it can really start to stimulate their appetite. You could have a kid that has never really had a taste for certain kinds of fruit and once they have tried something like fruit salads and sweet and sour chicken and develop a great taste for fruit. A school lunch program can work wonders for stimulating a child’s appetite simply through the practice of offering a wide selection of main dishes along with sides and drinks. Many schools are providing juices and different flavors and kinds of milk to make sure that there are good selections for everyone that is eating there on that day.
In order for kids to develop a healthy appetite they should be be exposed to a variety of foods. If you give your kid the same types of foods again and again these are the only foods that they will like. Continually eating the same things will cause them to not want to even try a new type of food. This is why school and parents should work hard to really stimulate children’s appetites.
Children will become more adventurous regarding new foods when they are continually introduced to new foods at school. However, schools cannot just add variety; they must also make certain that the food they provide looks and tastes good. Your kids are certainly not going to want to be fed something in school that simply looks and smells unappetizing. Children want to eat stuff attract their eyes just as much as their other senses. If schools can find different foods that are healthy and are appealing to the senses, then they will have no trouble stimulating the children’s appetites.
