This is ruining my life………?

February 25th, 2010

male, 25 years old and skinny (been skinny all my life though). No drink or smoke and i was diagnosed with atopic eczema since i was little. I’ve been stressing a lot lately.

For the past 4 months now (after a flu) i have some weird symptoms that are debilitating. Some are hard to explain. H. Pylori is the only thing doctors found after a series of blood tests, EKG, chest x rays, nuclear scans for the chest, and breathing tests. No asthma but the only doubtful thing was that i couldn’t fully expire all the air out. I’m seeing a respiratory specialist and he’s still trying to figure out what’s wrong with me. He suggested it could be anxiety, a muscular disorder or lack of fitness or some kind of post-viral fatigue AKA fibromyalgia. He says he can hear a "whoosh" sound at the back but no sign of heart or lung disorders. He ordered some CT scans on chest now and fitness test.

I spent the last 4-5 years sitting in front of the pc for long hours without taking needed breaks. Perhaps it’s bad posture?

Symptoms:
* a shortness of breath that feels like having a book on top of my abdomen all the time. Gets worse on minimal exertion.
* tightness along the left chest/rib wall ( gets worse when i lift up my left arm or try to walk straight, i have to bend forward)
* pressure. I don’t know where but it can happen in my head, stomach, back, left arm.
* Lightheaded. Sometimes i feel i’m going to black out or pass out.
* Weakness? Fatigue? sometimes i feel my whole body is going to paralyse. I’m doing something simple such as cooking and i start feeling weak and i have to sit down for 30-45 mins because i can’t stay up. This affects my speech, swallowing, breathing etc.
* i see my left rib cage kinda "swollen" all the time or is pushing outwards a bit
* struggle to focus
* struggle to relax, i feel tense most of the time
* sore eyes
* occasional headaches
* easy to forget things
* face feels hot all day, gets better at night.

Movement such as travelling in a car can trigger the first 4 symptoms. It’s not the usual nausea some people feel it’s much worse and scarier than that. Exercise makes me sick too so i have to stay home all day without doing much. Can’t go to college or work anymore.

Any suggestions? cos i’m lost. thanks and sorry for the long post.

YOU’RE ALLERGIC TO ASPARTAME!!!

The CT scan of your left lung will be interesting.

Even if it isn’t the problem, seeing a chiropractor to correct your posture would be good.

Not all blood tests find something you’re reacting to. They test for common things like gluten, but an undetected culprit of health problems is artificial sweeteners.

I recently had chronic hives, but as soon as I stopped eating a brand of sugar free chocolate, the hives stopped. My eczema is worse than ever, but the hives have gone. The problem was a sweetener called maltitol. As soon as I googled that and hives, Google came up with endless pages linking the two.

The most notorious artificial sweetener is aspartame. It’s numbered 951. It’s in a lot of products. Maybe check the ingredients of what you’re eating. Remove it and see what happens.

Scroll down and look at the side effects to people allergic to nutrasweet (Aspartame (951)) http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-side-effects.html

Is it bad to have an infection in your lung?

February 25th, 2010

Ok so yesterday my dad fainted & they took him to the hospital. At the hospital they told him it was because his left lung was infected. My question is,is it bad to have that kind of infection? And was the faint because of that or was it something else.He said he started coughing real hard and that’s when he fainted.

It is very likely that your father fainted after not getting enough oxygen from coughing so hard and for so long. A lung infection is a serious matter and should be treated exactly as directed by the doctor. He needs to make sure he takes any prescribed meds, especially antibiotics to clear up the infection.
You sound like a loving daughter to be so concerned about your dad. Hope he’s better soon.

To those moms whose babies had SRV?

February 23rd, 2010

How did u know ur baby had it?
My baby seems to have a cold, runny nose, coughing and sneezing sometimes..
I just read in babycenter.com and will quote something that made me scared:
My baby has cold symptoms. Could it be RSV?

Maybe. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infects most children sooner or later (usually before the age of 2). It often starts out with cold symptoms. In fact, for many babies and young children, the virus is no more troublesome than a cold.

For a few, though, mild cold symptoms (such as a runny nose, a minor cough, and a low fever) develop into a more pronounced cough, labored breathing, and sometimes wheezing. Your baby may also be irritable and restless and have a poor appetite.

It’s important to call the doctor if you think your baby may have RSV, because the virus is the most common cause of two lung disorders in babies, bronchiolitis (which swells the small airways and fills them with mucus, blocking airflow) and pneumonia (an infection and inflammation of the lungs). Either of these conditions can be dangerous — even deadly — for babies, particularly those younger than 6 months.

RSV can also lead to ear infections.
Deadly? I need to know if my son has/will have SRV asap!

Help!
I just wanted to add that my baby is 4 months old.

My son got RSV a couple months ago (at 18 months old).
He had a runny nose with a cough and a 104º fever.
I immediately took him to the ER (it was 2am) when I noticed he was breathing heavy.
It DID look like an ordinary cold, the only thing that worried me was the heavy breathing. He had been sleeping for about 2 hrs. and he was breathing extremely heavy, like he had just ran a marathon.
When I took him to the ER they said that his oxygen levels were a little low and they gave him oxygen (from a Nebulizer) and we stayed there for about 4 hrs. until they got his temperature down.
I was given a Nebulizer to bring home, and instructions to keep his fever down by giving him Infant Tylenol and Infant Motrin.
He was over the RSV within a week.

His Doctor told me that *most* babies will get RSV before the age of 2 and not even know it, they will brush it off as a ‘common cold’. It’s NOT dangerous if it’s detected early and treated. It’s only dangerous if you ignore the symptoms and they get worse and worse ..

My friends son is the one who gave it to my son (he’s 6 days older than my son) and she did NOT take her son to the Doctor (even though I literally begged her to) .. her son DID end up getting Pneumonia and water on his right lung.
He was given shots in the leg and some medication. He’s fine now.

RSV is common and not dangerous if it’s treated properly.
Just make an appointment with your child’s Doctor as soon as possible so they can do the RSV test (it’s a nose swab).

If a person needs a double lung transplant, are both lungs replaced during one surgery or 2 separate surgeries?

February 21st, 2010

My medical knowledge would say 2 surgeries since too many things can go wrong with a transplant, but at the same time extra surgeries are not recommended either. So, is a double lung transplant done in only one surgery or do they do it in two separate surgeries?

When a person needs a double lung transplant — it is virtually always done in one surgery. Often, the surgery is referred to as a bi-lateral lung transplant — because each lung is transplanted individually/separately… Often this can eliminate the need for profusion ("heart lung machine") because they can remove and replace one lung, while the other is keeping you alive — then when the new lung is working, they remove and replace the second lung.

Some diseases, like initial transplants for cystic fibrosis patients, require two lungs because they cannot afford to keep a CF diseased lung with the usual rampant infections in a newly immunosuppressed body. Younger patients will also often receive double lung transplants. However, many people with certain diseases can lead long, happy, productive lives with just one lung replaced…

I have CF and I had a double lung transplant just over 9 years ago.

im fed up of him getting stoned?

February 21st, 2010

My boyfriend keeps telling me he is going to quit,he said after the new year he would, and he still hasnt, its vital he quits as he’s been diagnosed with the lung disorder emphysema, yet he still continues to smoke and get stoned whilst acting like idiot,i’m fed up big time,i also dont like the smell?

Time to leave him. Maybe losing you will be jarring enough for him to quit. If you care about him more as a person though than as a boyfriend, you may want to drop a line to his parents, or someone else important to them. Just so they know his addiction is still going, and he’s now lost his girlfriend because of it.

Dr. Oz (on Oprah) has mentioned a battery of tests called Bot Physical 250?

February 19th, 2010

I can not find anything on this test(s). I can’t quite discern what he’s saying. I’ve tried loolking up Bot, and Bio, and Body….250 but I get no hits. Supposedly, this test(s) can pin-point major and minor deficiencies in your body….potential for cancer , blood disorders, lung issues, etc. Anyone ever heard of this? Thanks.
.

Yes. It’s called Biophyscial 250. There are two versions . . one is the full service and costs $3,400 and the other does half the tests at half the cost which is approximately $1,495.

It might be useful in establishing a baseline for your overall health.

My 8 and a half year old Rabbit has a lung infection. I have brought him into the house. Any advice?

February 19th, 2010

He has been to the vet and given an injection of anti biotics and anti biotic drops. He is moving about ok but not eating. I was told by the vet that he would probably go downhill fast but he seems more perky today but still not eating, only nibbling on a tiny amount of veggies Anyone got any advice?

If your rabbit is on antibiotics your vet should of given you some pro-biotics aswell. Rabbits have very sensitive tummys and the antibiotics can upset the gut flora. Ask your vet for some Bio-Lapsis.

Its good he’s eating a little bit, if he stops completely he’ll need to see a vet straight away, If he’s nibbling a little bit of veg it might be an idea to suppliment this with some syringe feed such as critical care.

As already said make sure your bunny is kept warm and that water is in easy reach.

Which is better for COPD patients, Albuterol inhaler or Combivent inhaler?

February 17th, 2010

I have the disease COPD & use an inhaler called Combivent. I have a friend with the same disease who uses Albuterol. His Dr. says Albuterol is best, my Dr. say’s combivent is the best. Who’s right? Need knowledgeable opinions please!

Each patient responds differently to every medication. Combivent or inhalers with ipratropium bromide need to make sure they do not have a peanut allergy before they take it. I personally think Pirbuterol or Maxair works the best. I’ve used them all. Combivent provoked my asthma and I DO have peanut allergies.

Can the spine pressing on the lung, as a result of kyphosis, cause general anxiety disorder?

February 17th, 2010

Can the spine pressing on the lung, as a result of kyphosis, cause general anxiety?
Anxiety and panic cause breathlessness but can the vice versa be true?

Anything that increases you levels of stress can cause anxiety. Few people realise that as many as 4% of the population have Global Anxiety Disorder and as many as 15% have other anxiety issues. However studies show vast variations on these numbers depending on the diagnostic criteria.

Name a disease OTHER THAN CANCER AND COPD that is also associated with smoking Tobacco?
