Is it okay to eat sushi if i had a lung transplant??
October 29th, 2009 | by admin |Okay i had a lung transplant like a year ago and my nurse told me not to eat sushi because i cant eat anything that is not cooked so i was wondering is the meat inside a california cooked and is it okay to eat or should i not eat sushi at all?
Cyclosporin, as you well know, severely impacts your immune system’s ability to cope with infection- which is why the lungs in your body are still in your body.
As long as the place you’re eating at is pretty clean, any vegetable based roll is no less safe than any other food you might eat.
There are several seafood rolls that might come cooked- especially fried. Ask where-ever you’re eating, and you might end up with a few delicious hits.
The uncooked sushi, though, I agree with the nurse on. Don’t go down that road.

If only you knew the kinds of parasitic infections you can get from eating sushi….
I wouldn’t.

Vegetarian sushi, maybe. The chances of getting a parasite (as the other person said) are much, much higher if you are still on suppressants from the transplant, or just have had a transplant in general. If the nurse told you not to, don’t, any of it. If you absolutely must, stick to the kind with veggies, not with raw fish.

I may look like a moon-faced and immune-suppressed penguin thanks to CGVHD, but I still eats my sushi.
