They are usually kind of long and follow the direction of the ribs, it may wrap around the back. You will also see a roundes or another slit scar from the chest tube the was used to drain the excess blood/ fluid from the chest cavity.

MY HUSBAND HAS HAD A PARTACAL THOCORACOTOMY, TOP LEFT LOB, SCAR GOES UNDER THE BREAST, AROUND AND UP TOWARD THE SHOLDER BLADE, ALMOST TO THE TOP OF THE NECK. WITH DRANAGE TUBE SCARES BELOW THE SCAR.
