First make sure your taking a long-term asthma puffer like Seretide, that builds up the strength in your lungs, as well as the normal ventolin etc. as required. This should help you in feeling better. Also have a look at hyper-ventilation syndrome, I know it feels so much like physical pain but try some breathing exercises / meditation too, this can make a huge difference.
