COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is really any chronic lung disease that restricts the airflow to and from the lungs making it difficult to breathe. This includes, but is not limited to, Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, and Asthma.

    I would not …
I would not recomend it. It relaxes the body and causes your breathing to become too shallow. This could lead to less oxygen getting to your lungs and even less CO2 (carbon dioxide) being exhaled. Another thing too is you have to consider what medication you may be taking. If you or a loved one is being treated for depression then the answer is a resounding no. Speak with your doctor first to see what he/she has to say.

    In yoga they call …
In yoga they call this “Ujjaya Breath.” I do yoga, running, aerobics, dance, weight training, etc. The sad thing is I’ve also smoked these past 10 years and my breathing is way out of control. I go about a week without smoking and then something- anything will trigger an impulse and then I’m bug-eyed and hunched over and trying to yawn all over again.

Does anyone else feel like me that you can only get a good breath of air when you yawn? Sometimes singing helps me too, I think because it keeps the air inside longer?

    Hi Michael. Great …
Hi Michael. Great videos. I’m a physical therapist (in the UK we are principally responsible for teaching these techniques to patients) and I am very impressed with your advice. It’s great to see someone with COPD like yourself taking control of their condition and not be afraid to share their knowledge. Peace and good luck with the future! Mike W.
