Would emphysema cause death?

November 9th, 2009 | by admin |

I know that Emphysema is a type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) involving damage to the air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs. As a result, your body does not get the oxygen it needs. Emphysema makes it hard to catch your breath. You may also have a chronic cough and have trouble breathing during exercise.

But let say that if I suffer from Emphysema, would this finally cause my death if I shall not undergo any form of treatment. Also how long would I take before I die?.

If something else did not happen first, yes it eventually causes death. No one can say how long a person will live.

have trouble breathing – gets worse – yep you die

depends on how much you have compromised your lungs
as to how fast you slide down the tubes

    sorry

it sure does. it’s a progressive disease and leads to numerous other complications. patients should treat it to the very best of their abilities.

how long is hard to say. my sister in laws mom has had it for 20 years but is in the final stages now.

Unfortunately, the answer is yes. You should find treatment.
With treatment you can look foreward to many good years but
without treatment and lifestyle-change the decline can be rapid. The lack of oxygen will cause problems in your circulatory system and complications like pneumonia can be
fatal if not treated. It is impossible to say how rapid a disease will progress. The only one to answer that question is your doctor. he or she knows your personal situation.
Serious chronic lung disease is not to be taken lightly.By finding treatment in a relatively early stage you may prevent disability and early death.
