My husband is waiting for hospital admittance following finding a shadow on his lung. He is 41 and never smoked but had a few chest infections, the latter where he coughed up red mucus in a morning.
Can this be something else? The doctor said he will have to prepare himself ...

Yes, it's an uncommon infection which affects people who have depressed immune systems. It is in the same family as TB but not as catchy to normal people. There are lots of ways to treat it. It is spelled with a "y", mycobacterium. Good luck.
